Hi Andre,

In fact, if you understand the workflow of T3, it's quite easy for customization. Let's get started.

1. When Development mode is on
- Your site will run on .less files and your customization with less files will be displayed. All the template .less files are stored in: templates/t3_bs3_blank/less. If you want to customize your template style, you can use the .less files.
2. When Development mode is off
- Your site will run on .css files, the files are compiled from .less files when you implement the "LESS TO CSS" function. We recommend not to use the .css file to customize your template style as each time you compile LESS TO CSS, the .css files will be overridden and your work will be lost.
3. When to use custom.css file and where it is?
- The custom.css file is not inlcuded by default as it's user's custom file so you have to create it by yourselves (templates/t3_bs3_blank/css). The file is not overridden when compile LESS TO CSS.
- The file is for users who are not familiar with LESS.
4. When you should enable and disable development mode?
- ENABLE IT WHEN: you are developing your site with LESS so that the site will run on .less files and you will see how your site is performed with LESS, if it works properly, it will work properly also when dev mode is OFF. Also, you can use firebug to customize your template style easier, you will see the .less rules and where to find the .less file.
- DISABLE IT WHEN: your site is DONE, disable the dev mode, compile LESS TO CSS, enable CSS and JS optmization to improve your site performance.

Thanks for choosing T3 and if you have any further concern, let me know, I am willing to help you and to make sure your site runs properly.

Gardner.

Hi,

Thank you very much @Gardner Luna

at firtst point did you write, i don't understan one thing.
First i define that the customization is only applied for the theme only or for all themes. If it's just for your new created theme, please add style rules to the templates.less in the theme folder. and that's ok.
But if it's for all theme how can i do?

Thank you for helping me a lot!! :)

Hi Andre,

I will try to cover all your cocern here:

1. To customize a theme that you just created, you have to define that the customization is only applied for the theme only or for all themes. If it's just for your new created theme, please add style rules to the templates.less in the theme folder.

2. After compiling LESS TO CSS, you would see the theme folder in "templates\t3_bs3_blank\local\css\themes" as this belongs to customization so we put them in the local folder to prevent from data lost when upgrading.

3. The firebug is a tool to help you customize your template easier, you can select element to customize, change style rules ... after that you have to copy those things back to corresponding files. The changes in firebug will be lost when you refresh.

Hope it helps you.

Gardner.

hi Gardner Luna,

i understand everything you've written, and I don't know how to thank you for your prompt response and really clearly.
i'm so sorry but i have just more question if a can do!

i saw in documentation page how can i override theme files.
i went in:
templates/t3_bs3_blank/less/themes and i crated "custom-theme" and after i've copied in a folder theese files: template.less, variables.less, variables-custom.less.
after i assigned this style to my override template "home".
i don't understand this: when i want customize home page, i need to use

templates/t3_bs3_blank/less/themes/custom-themes/variables-custom.less
or
templates/t3_bs3_blank/less?

after i did my costumization i implement the "LESS TO CSS" but in templates/t3_bs3_blank/css/theme there's not custom-theme folder.
why? what have i wrong?

the last one is:
i was in documentation page that is possible use firebug for customization my web site.
i setted "Development mode on" i went on front-end, i did all my costumizations, i went in back en again, i setted "Development mode off", save, LESS TO CSS,
but nothing changed.
how can i use firebug directly to costumize my template?

thank you very very much for the response and for your time!!

Andre
