I am not sure the your image is demostrate about radio or checkbox.
Though, if you want to use radio, just change the type attritube in xml file to 'radio'.
If you want to use multiple checkbox, just change the type to 'checkboxes'.

T3 default does not come with full style for those control.
You may need to add some style to T3 plugins.

I was using the type "checkbox", so it was not working.
But I wanted to display them in style "groups of buttons" (see Checkbox):

I am sorry but yes. T3 has not cover all css style for all kind of Joomla elements.
We will try to add some style for essential elements in future.
